Ain’t No Time for Women

Ain’t No Time for Women

On the eve of the 2019 presidential election in Tunis a group of women, including the filmmaker’s grandmother, gather at a hairdressers. The women discuss their political points of view, their concerns and hopes for the new democratic regime openly in this female haven. This short Canadian film gives us an intimate window into their thoughts on what the outcome of the election is likely to have on their own lives.

Mariam Zaid, Associate programmer for Canadian films at Hot Docs said, “It … really captures the liveliness and conversation so typical to spaces like these, where women know each other and feel free to express themselves openly.”

“…Best Canadian Short Documentary Award at Hot Docs, …Montreal-based Sarra El Abed takes home top prize by returning to her Tunisian roots in her latest film” Amany Mohanna, The Link
