Happy New Year from Belleville Downtown DocFest

DocFest is excited to share our first round of film announcements for 2024!

Happy New Year from Belleville Downtown DocFest! The start of another year means that we’re just about two months away from DocFest 2024. We’re getting really excited and we have a ton of film announcements for you over the coming weeks.

Squaring the Circle
The story of the creative geniuses behind Hipgnosis, the design studio that turned LP album covers into an artform in late 60’s/ early 70’s London. Storm Thorgerson and Aubrey Powell created some of the most famous album covers of the era for bands including Pink Floyd, Led Zeppelin, Paul McCartney, and 10cc. Interviews with McCartney, Roger Waters, David Gilmour, Jimmy Page, Robert Plant, and Noel Gallagher reflect on Hipgnosis album designs as “the poor man’s art collection”.

Residents of a landmark Toronto apartment building known as ‘Spadina Gardens’ battle to stop its redevelopment by a new owner. One tenant, Charlotte Mickie, rallies a quirky group of current and former tenants including artists, playwrights, socialites, and models to defend the building. July Talk: Love Lives Here
In the summer of 2020, the COVID-19 pandemic made it impossible for July Talk, a Toronto rock band known for high-energy live shows, to tour in support of their latest album. In addition to archival footage from the band’s decade-long career, the film follows the group as they plan and then perform for fans at a local drive-in theatre.
