There’s No Place Like This Place, Anyplace

When the Toronto landmark Honest Ed’s block was sold to a Vancouver based developer it was the passing of an era. For so many people Honest Ed’s held important memories of getting started in a new city. The film includes wonderful archival footage and interviews that recall this quirky Toronto institution.

This feature follows the transformation of a much-loved neighbourhood and the relocation of its community members. Canadian filmmaker Lulu Wei documents the changes to the lives of those impacted by the gentrification of the Mirvish Village neighbourhood and through their stories she personalizes Canada’s massive housing crisis.

The film premiered as part of the 2020 Hot Docs Canadian International Documentary Festival.
